Statement by Commissioner Kyriakides on the intradermal use of monkeypox vaccine

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has advised on intradermal use of monkeypox vaccine. EMA's Emergency Task Force (ETF) has reviewed data showing that people who receive the monkeypox vaccine as an intradermal injection produce similar levels of antibodies to those who receive it as a subcutaneous injection. As only one fifth of a dose is necessary for intradermal vaccination compared to subcutaneous injection, this new recommendation will help to protect many more people with the available doses.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has initiated a series of actions to respond to the ongoing monkeypox outbreak, which has been escalated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on Saturday 23 July. This is the first new PHEIC to be declared since the regulation reinforcing EMA’s role in crisis preparedness and management of medicinal products and medical devices has become applicable.

The Commission has presented a list of headline indicators for monitoring progress towards the EU's environment and climate goals to 2030, as well as the 2050 long-term vision to ‘live well, within planetary boundaries'. Resulting from intense consultations with stakeholders and Member States, the new Monitoring Framework under the 8th Environment Action Programme aims to foster transparency and inform Europeans about the impact of EU climate and environmental policy.

Spain receives an additional €274.9 million from the 2022 tranche of REACT-EU. These resources will support the economic recovery of Spanish regions, help workers and jobseekers acquire skills necessary for the digital and green transition, and improve the access to and functioning of social systems. €137 million are added to the Spanish operational programme of the Fund for Aid to the Most Deprived, and The remaining resources, €137.9 million, are added to the European Social Fund.

This year 2022 the fourth Navarre edition of Europa+Cerca takes place. The programme, promoted in Navarre by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) represented by the University of Navarra and AIN, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Foreign Action and the Delegation of the Government of Navarra in Brussels, consists of face-to-face training and the organization of a trip to Brussels. The previous training will be on September 6th, and the trip to Brussels will be from September 13th to 15th, 2022. In response to the brutal aggression against Ukraine and its people, the European Commission has adopted a fifth package of restrictive measures against Russia. Together with the four previous packages, these sanctions will further contribute to ramping up economic pressure on the Kremlin and cripple its ability to finance its invasion of Ukraine. These include targeted export bans and the extending import bans.

The European Commission and the United States announce that they have agreed in principle on a new Trans-Atlantic Data Privacy Framework, which will foster trans-Atlantic data flows and address the concerns raised by the Court of Justice of the European Union in the Schrems II decision of July 2020. The new Framework marks an unprecedented commitment on the U.S. side to implement reforms that will strengthen the privacy and civil liberties protections applicable to U.S. signals intelligence activities.
