New edition Europe + Around 2022

This year 2022 the fourth Navarre edition of Europa+Cerca takes place. The programme, promoted in Navarre by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) represented by the University of Navarra and AIN, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Foreign Action and the Delegation of the Government of Navarra in Brussels, consists of face-to-face training and the organization of a trip to Brussels. The previous training will be on September 6th, and the trip to Brussels will be from September 13th to 15th, 2022. In this link you can access the registration form, which must be filled out before June 30th.

EU agrees fifth package of restrictive measures against Russia

In response to the brutal aggression against Ukraine and its people, the European Commission has adopted a fifth package of restrictive measures against Russia. Together with the four previous packages, these sanctions will further contribute to ramping up economic pressure on the Kremlin and cripple its ability to finance its invasion of Ukraine. These include targeted export bans and the extending import bans.

The European Commission and the United States announce that they have agreed in principle on a new Trans-Atlantic Data Privacy Framework, which will foster trans-Atlantic data flows and address the concerns raised by the Court of Justice of the European Union in the Schrems II decision of July 2020. The new Framework marks an unprecedented commitment on the U.S. side to implement reforms that will strengthen the privacy and civil liberties protections applicable to U.S. signals intelligence activities.

The updated rules will ensure that consumers can take informed and environment-friendly choices when buying their products. Consumers will have a right to know how long a product is designed to last for and how, if at all, it can be repaired. In addition, the rules will strengthen consumer protection against untrustworthy or false environmental claims, banning ‘greenwashing' and practices misleading consumers about the durability of a product.

The European Investment Fund (EIF) and Resilience Partners, a private debt firm, have partnered to provide financing support and flexibility to high-growth Spanish and European SMEs. In view of the large demand from companies with financial needs, the Resilience Partners Fund II, S.C.A., SICAR has achieved a first close and expects to mobilise a total of €150-200 million in financing to these companies.

The EC has approved under EU State aid rules Spain's map for granting regional aid  within the framework of the revised Regional aid Guidelines ('RAG'). The revised RAG, enable Member States to support the least favoured European regions in catching up and to reduce disparities in terms of economic well-being, income and unemployment. They also provide increased possibilities to support regions facing transition or structural challenges such as depopulation, to contribute fully to the green and digital transitions.

The European Commission had proposed on 3 February 2022 to extend the Regulation establishing the EU Digital COVID Certificate by one year, until 30 June 2023. It had also introduced other targeted amendments to extend the range of authorised antigen tests and to allow vaccination certificates to be issued to persons participating in clinical trials, for example.

State aid: Commission approves 2.9 billion Spanish scheme to compensate energy-intensive companies for indirect emission costs

The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a Spanish scheme to partially compensate energy-intensive companies for higher electricity prices resulting from indirect emission costs under the EU Emission Trading System. The scheme notified by Spain, with a total estimated budget of €2.9 billion, will cover part of the higher electricity prices arising from the impact of carbon prices on electricity generation costs (so-called ‘indirect emission costs') incurred between 2021 and 2030.
